Singapore Institute of Management private institute was established in 1964 by the Economic Development Board with the motive to create professional managers and leaders who can become the flag-bearers of Singapore's economic development. Earlier, this institute created its identity by providing essential skill-set to managers by running short crash courses. During the 1970s, this institute started three major diploma programs in management studies, marketing, and personnel development. At the same time, this institute also laid a strong foundation for other certificates and degree programs. In the 1980s, this institute collaborated with foreign universities such as the University of London and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology to offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs locally. In order to assist local enterprises and MNCs, this university created in-house training and consultancy services.
